This literature study is a companion to the book: Paddle-to-the-Sea by Holling Clancy Holling, which is a wonderful book that teaches kids about the Great Lakes area and all the amazing business, cities, and sites that lie around the Great Lakes during the early 1900's! The journey is seen through the eyes of Paddle, a little hand-carved wooden Indian in a canoe. As you journey with Paddle you will fall in love with this story and cheer him on as he travels to the ocean!
The literature study is a 35 page ebook for children - grade levels 4 to 6.
This study is meant to help children follow what happens to Paddle and record what Paddle passes while he takes his long journey. As you read the book, you will discuss the areas he is in, the how long it took him to get there, and what season it is.
Then glue the images onto the appropriate spot on the map. The children will also create a map key that tells what each image symbolizes. They will create a story timeline to show the season and year in which the events happened.
Teachers use the teacher-examples to help you teach the student(s) how to complete the map and key-timeline. Both examples are provided in a separate teacher's PDF. The map on the inside cover of your Paddle-to-the-Sea book as well as an atlas are also a wonderful help when completing this study.
This 35 page literature study includes:

Two of the lessons in the study do have Christian topics. So while the study doesn't focus on the Catholic faith it does have some Christian content. (Discusses the 4th Commandment and the Apostles)

Frequently Asked Questions
How will my items be packaged?
- All pendant/charm necklaces & bracelets are gift boxed - Then, gently tissue wrapped - next, securely wrapped in shipping paper and finally sent out in a corrugated box.
- Orders of charms and medals will not be attached to a necklace or bracelet (unless requested). They are sent in a small shipping box.
-Most of out items are sent in a 4-inch by 4-inch box unless a larger box is needed.
- All tangible items are wrapped in shipping paper & sent in a corrugated box. This is what we find to be the safest way to send items.
Jewelry also includes a jewelry cleaning cloth!
How do download purchases work?
After you make your purchase, you can gain access to your file download(s) from your Esty Purchases page. Beside the purchase from our shop is a link/button which reads: "Files Ready to Download". Click on that to view and download your files.
Will you ship outside of the USA?
I'm very sorry we can only ship within the US.
What is the estimated shipping time?
All items have various creation time needs. Our items are made to order - Please allow at least 3 days for us to make and ship your item(s). Occasionally, it can take over 3 days to ship an order if we get behind. This does happen occasionally.

Saint Medals and Charms

The saint medals are either oxidized metal or silver plated. These medals can get discolored but can be cleaned. A cleaning cloth is sent along to help make that process easier. If they look a bit dingy rub the dry cloth over them. Major cleanings can be done with lemon juice and baking soda.
Silver Tone Charms
---
The silver tone charms (flowers/hearts/animals/etc) will tarnish over time. These are lesser quality than the Oxidized Saint Medals & Charms. Dry cleanings (when needed) can sometimes prolong their silver color.
Stainless Steel Necklaces & Bracelets

SS items are strong for their size & will not tarnish. Dry cloth (included) cleanings are great! Lemon juice & baking soda cleanings can also help!

This works well for our needs. I noticed a couple errors (e.g., Lake St. Clair is the correct spelling of the lake in Michigan), but nothing significant and we are happily using it. I think this is a good supplement for the geography portion of PTTS and makes my life a lot easier that she has done 98% of the work for me! (We are not using the lit packet part, although if your child enjoys worksheets it would likely be great.)
